Hello all,

I realize that this may be miscategorized, so if so, I apologize in advance. Because of my hearing impairment and wearing hearing aids while listening to music creates unwarranted feedback, I am searching for a way to make my Sony MDR Z7 headphones louder. Currently, I have a Phi3 amp, though have to turn it up to the max. Without this DAC, bass response is virtually non-existent. Thanks for any assistance you are able to provide.

Here’s an idea you might try.
These are normally not to boost volume, but they are for clearing up the music, and the sound quality.
They do add volume and it is not distorted.
The Sony’s do require some driving, so I’m surprised with an amp there not powerful enough.
On the low price side, try this DAC, or digital Audio Comverter.
I have one, and it is great, but I use it for clearing the quality.

It is a USB device, so you just plug it in and then plug your headphones in and your ready to jump.
Under the sounds on your computer, adjust the volume like you would any sound card.
Now a better choice and of course more money is the dragon fly.
You can go with the Black, but the Red is the better.

It is also a USB device, but the benefit to this one is you can also use it on your iPhone.
It will plug in to the bottom in the lighting port.
In your situation, I think I’d save the money and just get the black sense you are only after volume.
Good luck.

I wonder if those headphones that work through your bones through resonance would work better for you. I cannot remember the brand, but lots of folks really like them. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

I do. An interesting idea.
They'd not be really good for music however.

Aren't those the Aftershocks or something??

the after shocks will not work well with music. and they still require you to be able to hear them, they just send the sound into your ears through your bones. the same thing still happens.

Sony may not have been a good choice.
They get plenty lound, but they are limited.
I believe Sony believes in keeping people safe, so seems to limit what you can drive them to.
I don't know this for a fact, but a Sony headset is vary smooth, but doesn't seem to crank like say a Beats, or other brand.
Really clean sounding, and I'm thinking if you add the DAC, you'll get the desired effect.
